The winners of 2021 Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA) were revealed on September 2 and Chang Jung Christian University (CJCU) was the winner of Green Leadership Category for a high recognition of its long-term devotion to sustainability. CJCU re-defined “Green” as “Global Connection,” “Social Responsibility,” “Local Engagement,” “Ecological Conservation,” and “Natural Education.” For global connection, CJCU called for global partners to strive for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) according to SDG17 and actively promoted education for sustainable development. In terms of social responsibility, in response to SDG3, Good Health and Well-Being, SDG4, Quality Education, and SDG8, Decent Work and Economic Growth, CJCU actively participated in the University Social Responsibility (USR) program. To engage locally, CJCU introduced the sustainable business model to jointly develop a circular economy with local small farmers. For ecological education, CJCU promoted SDG6, Clean Water and Sanitation, and SDG7, Affordable and Clean Energy, by enacting energy saving policies and practicing green purchase. CJCU conducted natural education to respond to SDG11, Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG13, Climate Action, and SDG15 Life on Land. Since 2002, CJCU has worked with the River Restoration Center to conserve Erren River; in 2016, the Environmental Education Mobile Classroom and the International College of Practice and Education for the Environment were established to initiate the educational model to protect the Erren River and shed light on the importance of sustainable development.
